Duncan named to Fort Bend County redistricting committee

Katy resident Wendy Duncan has been named to a 10-member citizens’ redistricting committee which will assess voting precincts in Fort Bend County. Duncan, an account manager for Inframark, previously ran against Fort Bend County Commissioner Precinct 3 Commissioner for his seat in 2020. She was appointed to the committee by Fort Bend County Commissioner Precinct 1 Vincent Morales.

“It is an honor to serve on the Fort Bend County Citizens Redistricting Advisory Committee and represent the interests of the residents of Precinct 1,” Duncan said in an email to the Katy Times. “Redistricting is a vital part of ensuring fair representation for every community, and I am committed to developing maps for Commissioners Court to consider that reflect the needs of our county. Fort Bend is one of the most dynamic and fast-growing regions in Texas, and I look forward to working collaboratively to uphold transparency and fairness through this process.”

In a Fort Bend County Commissioner Court meeting on July 22, commissioners selected six members of a proposed 10-member citizens' redistricting committee approved in the previous meeting. Redistricting is usually done every ten years based on census data. However, Commissioner Meyers is leading a movement to redraw precinct lines following a request from Texas Representative Matt Morgan, a Republican whose 26th District includes portions of Fort Bend County. Morgan alleges that many of the county’s precincts are illegal because they have either too many or too few voters.

Earlier this month, commissioners court voted to create a redistricting committee, with two members appointed by each commissioner and the county judge. Six appointees have been named to date, including Jacob Lee and Robert Beham, both appointed by County Judge KP George; Duncan and Ryan Yokubaitis, appointed by Morales; and Upendra Sahu and Mike Gibson, named by Meyers.
