Another candidate has thrown his hats in the ring for the City of Katy council seats up for election on May 2.

On January 20, Johnston Dietz, whose LinkedIn profile identifies him as an operations manager at JDR Cable Systems, posted on Facebook that he had filed to run for the Ward A seat now held by Janet Corte, who is term-limited and unable to run again. Dietz, who holds three degrees from Texas A&M, listed his experience in serving the City of Katy, including board membership on the zoning board of adjustments, planning and zoning board, BESS advisory board and entertainment district advisory committee. He has also served on the CTE General Advisory Committee in Waller ISD and as president of the Westland Estates HOA.

The election will be held on May 2.

In the meantime, a special election to fill the Ward A seat vacated by Councilmember Dan Smith is set for January 31 when voters will choose either Cara Bonin or Paula Taylor. Smith resigned to run for the commissioner’s position in Waller County Precinct 4.
