In a short special session on May 19, Katy’s city council approved the final piece for completion of its historic downtown square renovation.
The Katy Corner, located at the southwest corner of the square directly across from City Hall, is expected to be completed before Rice Harvest Festival. The centerpiece of Katy Corner will be Katy’s beloved geese sculpture, which had to be relocated from its former home along Interstate 10 due to a freeway expansion project initiated by the Texas Department of Transportation.
At the meeting, council members awarded a $325,000 bid to D.L. Mecham Corporation to relocate the statue. The total project cost includes the $62,000 first authorized for plan development.
