The City of Katy will move forward with recreational opportunities for city residents as a result of actions taken at the April 28 meeting of city council.
In a unanimous vote, council members authorized the mayor to sign interlocal agreements with area MUDS and with the Fawnlake HOA for development of the city’s proposed system of walkable trails. The matter was brought back for a vote after being tabled at the April 14 council meeting. Councilmember Gina Hicks thanked council for the extra time to obtain community feedback on the updated route.
Councilmembers also unanimously approved a plan for the mayor to sign a professional services agreement for enhancements to Katy City Park, 5850 Franz in Katy. The agreement will provide for concept design for drainage and site improvements, and for the installation of artificial turf and for pickleball courts. City of Katy Parks & Recreation Director Kevin Browne said that the concept design has already been completed and that construction could start soon, with completion expected in the summer of 2026.
Public comments featured four speakers: Betty Williams, who spoke about the need for a traffic signal at Morton and Katy Hockley Road; and Sean Dolan, Shari Boothe and Brenda Martin, all of whom spoke on the upcoming election in which voters will decide on possible changes to the city’s charter.
Proclamations were also presented:
· Designating May 4 as International Firefighters’ Day, read by Mayor Pro Tem Chris Harris
· Establishing May 4-10 as Municipal Clerks Week, read by Councilmember Janet Corte
· Declaring May 4-10 as Public Service Recognition Week, read by Councilmember Rory Robertson
The next meeting of Katy’s city council will be held on May 12 at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall, 901 Avenue C in Katy.
