City of Katy to participate in ‘Great Warrant Roundup’ Mar. 25-26

In a short meeting of Katy’s city council on February 23, council members heard a brief presentation on the upcoming “Great Warrant Roundup.” Faviola Rodriguez, Katy Municipal Court administrator, outlined the program which is an annual effort by law enforcement agencies across Texas to collect outstanding warrants for unpaid traffic fines and other violations.

The program aims to ensure accountability for individuals with outstanding warrants, which can lead to arrest if not resolved. The roundup begins with a grace period where individuals can pay their fines to avoid arrest; after this period, arrests can occur at any time.

The City of Katy Municipal Court has scheduled special “Safe Harbor” court dates to help residents resolve outstanding warrants voluntarily without fear of arrest during these designated times. The dates have been set for March 25 and March 26 from 8 to 10 a.m. and 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on a first come/first served basis. Participants must bring a valid photo ID. Those who are unable to pay in full may request additional time from the judge. For more information, visit www.cityofkaty.com/warrantroundup.

Council also unanimously approved an ordinance appointing Anne Nicklas and Drew William Ryser to the Keep Katy Beautiful board.

Mayor Dusty Thiele presented a proclamation honoring the late Mike Johnston to his family. The legendary Katy High School head football coach, who passed away January 10, led the Tigers to 13 district titles and made five state championship appearances over a 22-year run with the school.

The March 9 meeting of city council has been cancelled; the next meeting of Katy’s city council will be on March 23 at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall, 901 Avenue C in Katy.
