Tompkins opened its District 19-6A title defense in strong fashion on Tuesday, beating contenders Katy, 4-2, in both teams first district game of the season. The win moved the Falcons to 4-2 on the season and 1-0 in district
Ty Dagley was huge for Tompkins in the game, allowing just one run over four innings and striking out six in the win, while Ivan Gomez Aryan Chopra and Darius Woodson all had an RBI to lead the Tompkins offense.
It took until the third inning for both teams to get on the board, as Katy struck first in the top of the inning, with AJ Atkinson driving in a run on a single after Katy had two walks to start the inning.
Tompkins struck back in the bottom of the inning, getting a run across when Cooper Markle reached on an error to bring in a run. The Falcons then took the lead in the fifth inning, the Falcons got the bases loaded with a walk and two singles, and Gomez brought in a run with another single, before Woodson made things a two run game with a single of his own. Chopra made things 4-1 a batter later when he walked as the Falcons grabbed a strong lead in the game.
The Tigers made a run at getting back into things in the top of the seventh, getting a runner on and then getting a run across on a Reese Ruderman single, but a strikeout ended things as the Falcons were able to secure the win.
Lucas Moore started the game for Katy and allowed three earned runs on five hits while striking out four and walking five. The loss was Katy’s first of the season, as they fell to 6-1 and 0-1 in district play.
Cinco Ranch powers past Taylor
Cinco Ranch used a powerful offensive performance to start district off on the right note, beating Taylor 14-6 to move to 6-0 on the season and 1-0 in district play.
It took for the third quarter for either team to get on the board, but Cinco Ranch did it in a big way, getting two runners on before Lucas Franco hit a three run home run to put the Cougars ahead. Taylor responded with Brett Delojsi bringing in a run on a double to make things 3-1.
Cinco though answered back in the next inning, getting two men on once again before Charlie Atkinson hit a three run home run to make thing a five run game.
Gavin Rutherford then hit a solo home run in the top of the fifth before Torin Green hit a double to drive in a run, Rainer Castillo drove in another on a single and Atkinson hit a double to make things 10-1 Cougars.
Taylor had a big bottom of the fifth, scoring two runs on a Dolejsi single, adding another on an Adam Fitzgerald single, another on a wild pitch and two more runs on a single from Logan Stark.
But Taylor put things beyond a doubt in the top of the sixth inning. Connor Ficcara drove in a run on a single before Green drove in another run with a single. Castillo drove in two more runs with another single to put a stamp on a strong inning for Cinco Ranch.
Stark started the game and pitched four innings, allowing seven earned runs on nine hits while striking out four. The loss dropped Taylor to 3-4-1 and 0-1 in district play.
Jordan shuts out Mayde Creek
Jordan started district off with a win on Tuesday, topping Mayde Creek 6-0 in a dominant pitching display.
Connor Carmichael was a huge part of the win, pitching seven innings and allowing just two hits, while striking out eight batters and walking none to lead the Warriors. JD Ortigoza, Brett Miller, James Lacy and Andre Toups all had one RBI on the day in a balanced game for the offense.
Jordan got on the board in the top of the second, as Lacy drove in a run on a single and Lacy drove in another with a second single. Things stayed that way until the top of the sixth, when Ortigoza drove in another on a single, Miller followed that up with an RBI single and then another run came in on a passed ball. Jordan scored a sixth run in the top of the seventh when Lacy stole home plate to seal the win.
Marcus Rodriguez started for Mayde Creek and pitched four innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits while striking out five and walking three. The loss dropped the Rams to 0-5-1 on the season and 0-1 in district play.
Paetow tops Morton Ranch
Paetow earned a 7-4 win over Morton Ranch to start district play, as the Panthers offense had a strong day at the plate to lead them past the Mavericks.
Garrett Smith and Maddox Prentice led the Panthers at the plate, with Smith driving in three runs and Pretince drove in two.
The Panthers took the lead in the third inning, as Smith drove in a run on a single, but Morton Ranch tied things in the bottom of the inning on a Justin Cryer RBI single. Paetow came back with another run in the fourth, scoring on an error, and then scored two more in the fifth, as the Panthers got a run on an error. Prentice then hit a sacrifice grounder to make it 4-1 Paetow.
Morton Ranch got two back in the bottom of the fifth. Isaac Cantu hit an RBI single before Cryer drove in another run on a single, making it a one run game.
Paetow pulled away in the sixth. Charles Radley drove a run in on a sacrifice fly before Smith hit in a triple to drive in another and Prentice made things 7-3 on another single. Morton Ranch got a final run in the seventh, getting it on a sacrifice fly.
Brandon Hasselbring started for the Mavericks and went four innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits, while striking out three and walking six. The loss dropped Morton Ranch to 2-6 and 0-1 in district.
