Katy High junior guard Dayvaughn Froe broke the program record for points in a game when he scored 41 in the Tigers’ 84-48 win over Morton Ranch on Jan. 29. “I just took advantage of beating them down the floor and getting to the rim in transition,” Froe said. “My teammates did a great job getting me the ball where I needed it. As the game went on, I got into a flow getting to the basket and just felt like I could get there whenever I wanted to.” Froe’s previous career high was 26 points. “Setting the school record is an honor to me and something I was very proud of,” he said. “I am blessed and grateful to be able to play this game, and setting that record was a big accomplishment for me.” …

Former Katy High volleyball standout Autumn Gentry made quite the first impression in her debut for Northwestern State on Jan. 25. In the Lady Demons’ 3-1 win over Louisiana Tech, the sophomore right side hitter/setter compiled 11 kills, 15 assists and 12 digs to become the second player in school history to record a triple double. “I had high hopes for myself coming back from sitting a season and with everything with COVID,” Gentry told NSUDemons.com. “We didn’t think we were going to get to this point this season, so it was super exciting.” …

Katy High senior linebacker and team captain Shepherd Bowling verbally committed to Army on Jan. 30. Bowling joins Tiger teammates, and offensive linemen, Bill Katsigiannis and Omarrion Aigbedion in pledging to the Black Knights. Taylor senior running back Casey Shorter signed with Army in December. …

Former Katy High quarterback Bronson McClelland verbally committed to Trinity Valley Junior College on Jan. 26. “In the last 2 years, I faced challenges that I could not change, therefore, forcing me to accept them and move on,” McClelland wrote in a statement on Twitter. “…After considering all of my options to help me earn the right to play Division I football as quickly as I can, I have accepted a full scholarship at Trinity Valley Junior College, well-known for developing players who have gone on to D1 colleges.” McClelland graduated from Katy in December. The 2020 junior college football season begins in the spring. McClelland will be eligible to play. For his career at Katy, McClelland, a three-year letterman and two-year varsity starter from 2018-2019, completed 60 percent of his passes for 4,078 yards and 55 touchdowns to 13 interceptions. He also rushed for 315 yards and 11 touchdowns on 83 carries. …

Taylor senior offensive lineman Bryce Foster and Katy High senior defensive back Hunter Washington were named to the 2020 Whataburger Super Team, recognizing the top high school football players in Texas as voted upon by fans. Foster is a Texas A&M signee. Washington is a Florida State signee. …

At the District 19-6A swim meet on Jan. 23, Cinco Ranch’s quartet of Jia-Xi Chin, Sebastian Silva, William Betts and Brandon Guo set a record in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:26.46. …

In the Texas Girls Coaches Association Class 6A state soccer rankings this week, Seven Lakes is ranked No. 20 and Tompkins is ranked No. 25. In the TGCA Class 6A state basketball rankings, Tompkins is ranked No. 18. Paetow’s boys are ranked No. 21 in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches’ Class 5A state poll. TABC has the Tompkins girls ranked No. 18 in Class 6A. … In boys soccer, TASCO (Texas Association of Soccer Coaches organization) ranks Seven Lakes first in Region III-6A, with Tompkins ranked second and Cinco Ranch seventh. On the girls side, Tompkins is ranked second, followed by Seven Lakes in fourth and Cinco Ranch in eighth. In Region III-5A boys soccer, Paetow is ranked second by TASCO.
