Seven Lakes and Jordan both advanced to the third round of the playoffs on Friday, with the Spartans surviving a scare from Cy-Creek and Jordan pulling away from Cy-Fair with a very strong second half.
Seven Lakes was taken to the brink, but overcame Cy-Creek in the second round, winning 58-57 in overtime and advancing to the regional quarterfinals for the second straight season. Cy-Creek took a 16-11 lead at the end of the fist quarter and continued to lead through the first half, leading 25-21 after two quarters. The Spartans got back into things in the second, but still trailed by four at the end of the third quarter before forcing overtime with the game tied at 50 after four quarters. The Spartans took their final lead on an AJ Bates field goal with seconds left remaining in overtime and they held on by blocking a 3-point attempt at the buzzer.
Seven Lakes advances to the third round where they will face undefeated Clements, date and time to be determined.
Jordan was srong throughout in its win over Cy-Fair, taking care of business against a distict winner with a 55-40 win. The Warriors led 17-14 after the first quarter and went into the half with a 26-24 lead, before pulling away in the second half and winning by 15. The Warriors also clinched their second straight appearance in the regional quarterfinals as they try to get back to the regional tournament for the second straight season. For their efforts, they get a chance to play a rematch of a playoff game they had last year, as they will face Bellaire in the third round. Last year when the two faced off in the area round, the Warriors pulled out a 46-45 win with a buzzer beater by Tyler France. They will try to beat the Cardinals for the second straight season 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Delmar Sports Complex.
