Pat Owen Adams passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, in Katy, the Katy Police Department announced on its Facebook page on July 31. On July 15, 1967, Adams started his 28 years with the City of Katy as its first Chief of Police.

Pat Adams, KPD’s first chief, passes away

Pat Owen Adams passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, in Katy, the Katy Police Department announced on its Facebook page on July 31. On July 15, 1967, Adams started his 28 years with the City of Katy as its first Chief of Police.

“Today we celebrate his life as a procession will pass through the Katy Police Department in honor of his service to the City of Katy,” said the department in the social media post. “Rest in Peace our dear friend!”

According to the obituary posted at schmidtfuneralhome.net/obituary/pat-adams, Adams was born on November 20, 1933, in Houston to Alton Bee Adams and Lacye Owen. He grew up in Houston, attending Jeff Davis High School and Sam Houston High School. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1951-1954 during the Korean War. In 1958, Adams began his career in law enforcement, joining the Texas Department of Safety. He was stationed in Katy for nine years.

Adams served on the Criminal Justice Advisory Committee with the Houston/Galveston Area Council, The Houston Area Chief of Police Association, Texas Chief of Police Association, and the Board of Governors of the Harris County Organized Crime Task Force, according to the obituary.

He is survived by his wife Carolyn Adams; son, Jimmy Adams and his wife Denise of Mineral Wells; daughter, Carol Moore of Katy; grandchildren, Jennifer Nelson and husband Craig, Kristi Moore and Bret Moore all of Katy; and six great-grandchildren. Adams was preceded in death by his late wife, Joan Adams; parents, Alton and Layce Adams; and sons, Bret and Neil Adams.

A memorial service was held July 31st at Katy's First Baptist Church, 600 Pin Oak in Katy, with Dr. Rob Lyerly and Dr. Charles Wisdom officiating.
