You only have to look at last season to see how far the district has come with its success. In 2021, Katy ISD produced a state champion in Paetow and a state semifinalst in Katy, it didn’t stop there though, as both Tompkins and Cinco Ranch come off regional semifinal appearances.

“I felt like, I really like this spot and I can get this over with and look forward to college while being able to focus on my team,” Rutherford said. “Now I don’t have to worry about anything. I just can go out there, perform the best I can and help my team win. This team is my brothers and I want to be here with them fully."

Overall there will be 48 teams competing in the tournament, with more than 30 of them making the playoffs last season. The tournament will take place from Thursday through Saturday at Katy ISD and Cy-Fair ISD schools.
