Winston Clyatt Gay, age 79, entered eternal peaceful rest at home surrounded by family on January 2, 2022, in Katy, Texas.
Winston was born on April 11, 1942, to David and Stella Gay in Norman Park, Georgia.
As a young man, Winston joined the Air Force and served our country proudly. After serving, Winston found his way to Texas where he started his lifelong career with NCR as a mechanical technician.
Winston was a dedicated husband, father, and papa to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Winston loved to stay busy as he dabbled with rental properties and helped his family with any home repairs that were needed. His love for animals was well known among his family. He even had a pet Blue Jay known as “Mr. Blue” who loved to sit on his shoulder and steal his cigarettes. He was also known for keeping the possum families fed, at home, and whenever they found us on vacation. He loved to sit and watch tv with Rosalyn, especially westerns, NASCAR, the Texans, and the Astros.
Winston leaves his loved ones with unforgettable memories and stories. He will be sincerely missed by his loving family, friends, and all the wonderful individuals who knew and loved him.
Winston is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Rosalyn Gay; four sons, Todd Gay, and wife, Teri; Larry Gay and wife, Cheri; Wayne Greer; and Christopher Salonen and wife, Aubrey; six grandchildren, Kayla Gay and fiancée Kevin Stoddard; Justin Salonen and wife, Casey; Wesley Gay and wife, Hailey; Madeline Murphy and husband Chance, Cameron Salonen and wife, Caitlyn and Hunter Greer; as well as twelve great-grandchildren. He is survived by his brother, Cecil Gay of Arkansas, and sister, Edith Evanikoff of California. He was preceded in death by 9 siblings, Emma Lorett East, Eddie Gay, Grady Gay, Chester Gay, Edna Brayden, Dorothy Lee Burchfield, Wendall Gay, Sarah Bronkaw, and Madeline Gay.
Honorary pall bears are Kevin Stoddard, Wes Gay, Hunter Greer, Justin Salonen, Chance Murphy, and Gabe Coulter.
The family will receive visitors from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 7, 2022, at Schmidt Funeral Home, 1508 East Avenue, Katy, Texas. Winston’s funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at Schmidt Funeral Home. Immediately following the funeral, a graveside service will be held at Magnolia Cemetery, in Katy, Texas.
