The Waller County Commissioners Court held their weekly meeting June 17, passing a county-wide Juneteenth proclamation and approving two contracts for current constructions.
The court, led by Commissioner Jeron Barnett that day in the absence of Judge Trey Duhon, passed a proclamation recognizing Juneteenth as an observed holiday. Juneteenth is the oldest nationally-celebrated commemoration of the end of slavery on June 19, 1865.
A contract with AmeriPower for electrical services at the new Precinct 4 building and a contract with Trinicom Communications for elevator and fire alarm panels for the New Justice Center were approved by the court.
Tim Chipman from the House of Help gave a presentation on the organization’s second Super Site Food Give Out. Chipman said 1,000 boxes of produce were given out a week in just four hours. He said the organization’s food pantry has seen a slight increase in clients due to COVID-19 and the closing the Saturday service day for the food give-out.
The court also approved the transfer of a 2013 Ford Explorer from the Sheriff’s Office to the Fire Marshal’s Office.
