This spring four $5000 college scholarships were awarded to Katy ISD senior athletes: Emma Hedges (Taylor High School) Davis Roup (Cinco Ranch High School) Ethan Woodward (Tompkins High School) Taylor Powell (Tompkins High School). To date, 43 scholarships have been awarded totaling $203,500, according to the May 9 announcement.

In 2012, a scholarship was established in memory of Ricky Scearce to honor his dedication to the youth of Katy. Ricky Scearce was a long-time educator and coach in the Katy Independent School District who passed May 4, 2012, while umpiring a softball playoff game. He worked at Mayde Creek Junior High, Taylor High School, and Memorial Parkway Junior High. He was a graduate of Katy High School class of 1969. Ricky was an active basketball official (Rice Belt) and softball umpire (TASO). He also spent many seasons coaching his twin daughters in youth sports and serving on the board of Katy Youth Basketball and Katy Girls Softball Association.
