Davis Roup, a senior at Katy ISD’s Cinco Ranch High School and quarterback for Chris Dudley’s Cougars, was among 26 area football stars honored by the Touchdown Club of Houston on February 18.

The club’s High School Football Scholar-Athlete Luncheon, now in its 27th year, salutes outstanding athletes from the Houston area for their achievements both on and off the field. During the arduous selection process, 50 percent of the scoring is based on academic performance, with 25 percent based on academic performance and 25 percent based on a combination of extra-curricular activities and community service.

“Excellence is not one-dimensional,” said keynote speaker UIL Athletic Director Ray Zepeda.

The 26 finalists at the event were selected from among 61 nominees.

Roup has a GPA of 4.57 on a 5.0 scale, ranks 50th in his class of 931 and scored 1410 on his SAT. He is a two-time team captain and all-district quarterback and district offensive MVP. Roup is also the recipient of the Cougar Heart Award, the CRHS Outstanding Academic Achievement Award and the CRHS Leadership Award. He is a two-time Academic All District and Academic All State ELITE Team member as a senior. Roup has been a class officer for three years and is a member of the National Honor Society. He is a student leader at Grace Fellowship Church and is active in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. His volunteer activities include Best Buddies and the Young Men’s Service League.

The event at the Bayou City Event Center, 9401 Knight Road in Houston, was emceed by ABC13 Sports Director Greg Bailey.
