For 2026’s his Teacher Appreciation Week, Harris County Precinct 4 Commissioner Lesley Briones launched the “My Favorite Teacher” student writing contest for grades K–12, inviting students to share how educators have made a lasting impact on their lives.

Precinct 4 received submissions from 27 public, charter, and private schools, demonstrating strong community engagement across the Precinct. The 22 selected winners – which include two educators from Katy ISD -- received a $100 gift from Precinct4Forward.

Honorees from Katy ISD were Lissette Neuman of Sundown Elementary School and Marcus Marsh of Mayde Creek High School, the precinct announced on May 7..

“As the proud daughter of teachers and a former public school educator, Commissioner Briones is committed to uplifting the educators shaping the next generation,” a Harris County Precinct 4 spokesperson said in the press release. “Whether it is enhancing safety around campuses through Sidewalks 4 Precinct 4 and Crosswalks 4 Precinct 4, offering back-to-school drives, free immunizations, and after-school programming. Commissioner Briones is delivering for our children’s future.”

Since 1984, the National Education Association has designated the first full week of May as Teacher Appreciation Week, recognizing educators nationwide for their dedication and service.
