On February 5, the Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA) and DICK’S Sporting Goods announced the 2025-2026 THSCA Football Super Elite Teams. This award recognizes student athletes across Texas for their outstanding athletic achievement in the 2025 UIL football season, the organization said.
Kosi Okpala from Katy ISD’s Mayde Creek High School was named to the defense team. Okpala was the only KISD athlete selected for the super elite team.

The THSCA Super Elite Teams recognize outstanding high school athletes across Texas who have demonstrated exceptional skill and character in their respective sports. The selection process is a two-step evaluation conducted by both the THSCA Super Elite Team (S.E.T.) Committee and the Sport-Specific Advisory Committee.
First, nominated athletes are reviewed by the S.E.T. Committee, which is made up of coaches representing the eight THSCA regions across the state. This committee carefully evaluates each nomination and recommends players for Super Elite Team consideration. In the second phase, the Sport-Specific Advisory Committee reviews the recommendations from the S.E.T. Committee and makes the final selections for the Super Elite Team.
To be eligible for nomination, an athlete must meet the following criteria:
· The nominating head coach must be a current THSCA professional member and submit the nomination by the designated deadline.
· The student athlete must demonstrate good moral character.
· The athlete must be a varsity team member in good standing at the time of nomination.
· The athlete must have distinguished themselves as an elite competitor in their sport.
The THSCA Super Elite Team selection process ensures that the most deserving athletes are recognized for their performance, leadership, and integrity, the organization said.
“THSCA is proud to continue its partnership with DICK’S Sporting Goods as the presenting sponsor of the THSCA Super Elite Teams award for football,” the press release said. “This partnership highlights a shared commitment to recognizing and celebrating the dedication, talent, and excellence of student-athletes across Texas. With DICK's Sporting Goods' support, the Super Elite Teams award will continue to honor outstanding achievements on and off the field, further inspiring the next generation of high school athletes.”
