Katy ISD’s Seven Lakes High School and Tompkins High School were among the top ten teams in Class 6A, ranked seventh and eighth, respectively.
In the announcement, the association noted that the defending champion is always the top ranked team to start the year, regardless of graduation losses; they are champions until they lose in the new season. If a champion is re-classified, they retain the top ranking in the new classification as well, until they lose.
Two champions, Cedar Park in Class 6A and Prosper Eagle Mountain in Class 5A, went up in classification but retain a number one ranking based on existing championship. There is no division within classifications as actual division relegation is based on individual district qualifiers.
