David Mills showed promise Sunday.

But any promise the rookie showed was undone by continued second half struggles by the Houston Texans, as the team once again fell apart the further the game went along.

“He took care of the ball, that’s his most important job and what he’s supposed to do,” Culley said. “Unfortunately, we weren’t able to get the ball in the endzone in the second half and that’s what we have to do better. That’s not just (Mills) that’s our entire offense has to be able to do that and we haven’t been able to consistently.”

The Texans only trailed by three at halftime but failed to score a point in the second half on the way to their fourth straight loss, 33-13 to the Seattle Seahawks.

Mills was solid in his first start since Tyrod Taylor came back healthy, throwing for 331 yards and a touchdown but the Texans defense faltered and the team once again could not form any semblance of a run game, only rushing for 63 total yards.

“We just didn’t execute the way we needed to in the run game,” Culley said. “I just have to go back to the video to see exactly what happened and why things didn’t happen. Usually when things like that happen, we don’t have everyone on the same page and we aren’t doing exactly what we need to do.”

The Texans took the opening drive of the game 75 yards on seven plays and scoring a touchdown on a five-yard pass to Brevin Jordan.

The Texans defense started the game strong as well, the Seahawks went on a 9-play, 56-yard drive to start but Houston held Seattle to a 38-yard field goal.

But from there, things slowly went awry for Houston. The Texans picked up one first down on their second drive but were first to point and the Seahawks took advantage of the opportunity, driving the field with a mixture of runs and passes and scoring on a 32-yard run from Rashaad Penny to take the lead.

The Texans tied things on the next drive, putting together a 16-play drive, but were forced to settle for a 21-yard field goal from Ka’imi Fairbairn. The Texans defense continued to struggle, the Seahawks went right down the field before the half and Russell Wilson threw a 55-yard touchdown to Tyler Lockett, but the Texans trimmed the lead with no time on the clock with a 61-yard field goal, going into the locker room trailing 16-13.

“Our adjustments have been good,” Culley said. “We just haven’t been able to execute what those adjustments are. We have got to do better at doing that. We’ve had that issue all year in second halves.

Seattle added a field goal early in the third quarter, and the Texans offense began to stumble, a problem that has plagued the team all year.

The Texans could not get anything going in the half and the Texans defense eventually gave 1-yard touchdown pass from Wilson to Gerald Everett midway through the fourth quarter. That and a two point conversion for Seattle basically sealed it. Penny put the cherry on top with a 47-yard touchdown run.

With the loss, the Texans drop to 2-11, they will play the Jaguars next Saturday in a battle of teams with two of the worst three records in the league.

“It always feels bad to lose,” Culley said. “The record is what it is and that’s not very good and it’s not what we expected. But at this point we are just looking to get the next win. I feel like we have a great bunch of guys in this locker room that will do everything we need to do to get things corrected, and that’s on me.”
