The Story Peddler bookstore in Bellville is hosting an author event on Thursday, August 29 at 6 p.m. Bellville native and author Brian Porter will read from his debut novel, "Dreams of Arcadia."

“Dreams of Arcadia” is a touching portrait of an American family. In the story, veterinarian Nate Holub takes a job in his father’s Texas hometown, wondering if a city boy has what it takes to be a country vet. As he struggles to adapt, Nate reconnects with his family and discovers that his father’s accidental death thirty years earlier was much more complicated than he realized. BookLife named the novel an Editor's Pick, calling it "a well-rounded story that will resonate with lovers of family dramas and thoughtful mysteries."

“Our vision is for The Story Peddler to be a haven for bibliophiles, aspiring writers and seasoned authors,” said the bookstore’s program manager, Kris Graham, in an email to the Katy Times. “We strive to make the bookstore a welcoming space for everyone.”

The store is located at 538 W. Main St. in Bellville.
