Constellation Field was abuzz with Sealy residents Sunday evening for the Sealy Day at the Skeeters, hosted by The Sealy News and Sealy Chamber of Commerce.

Tiger fans turned Sugar Land supporters packed sections three and four down the right field line and had a front-row seat for the festivities that all got kicked off by a familiar face.

Mayor Janice Whitehead was tasked with delivering a strike during the ceremonial first pitch and did just that all with a fuzzy mascot right behind her. Swatson, the green mosquito that hypes up the crowd, was celebrating his seventh birthday and was joined by Tiggy, the Sealy Tiger mascot, and other high school mascots in rejoicing another season in the sun.

After the national anthem, a group of Sealy children delivered the two words everyone longs to hear before the baseball game can start – “Play ball!”

The Skeeters jumped out to a one-run lead their first time at bat and although the visiting High Point Rockers tied it in the third, a base hit for the home team in the sixth inning brought everyone to their feet as Sugar Land retook a lead they would never relinquish.

The middle of the seventh inning brought around another baseball tradition in the singing of “God Bless America,” and former Sealy City Councilwoman Yvonne Johnson belted it out, eliciting a large ovation of appreciation from all over the stadium.

Prior to the game, the Sealy Community Foundation sold Sealybration tickets on the concourse and two videos showcasing Sealy were shown on the Texas-sized scoreboard.

The fans had more reason to cheer once the final out was recorded and all the hometown fans, as well as the Sealy contingency, got to go home happy with a 2-1 victory.
