Samuel M. Ramirez, Jr. was born on November 21, 1938 in Beeville, Texas to Samuel Garza Ramirez and Aurora Murray. He was a 1957 graduate of A.C. Jones High School and obtained a degree in computer science from the University of Houston. Samuel served his country in the U.S. Army in Okinawa and during the Vietnam Conflict. After seven years, he earned the rank of Captain. He married Grace Marie Dougherty and together they built a beautiful family. He was an avid Katy Tiger fan. Samuel loved being a father and grandfather; his family was his life.
Samuel M. Ramirez, Jr. passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2024, in Katy, Texas, at the age of 85.
He is survived by his wife, Grace Ramirez; daughters, Renee Munoz and her husband Anthony, Cathy Ramirez, and Nancy Morrison; sisters, Rose Cavazos and her husband Albert of Corpus Christi, Eunice Morris and her husband Bob of San Antonio, and Elizabeth Medina of Corpus Christi; grandchildren, Katy O’Shields and her husband Ryan of Katy, Jordan Munoz of Plano, Olivia Munoz of Lewisville, and Samantha Morrison of Richmond; great grandchildren, Harleigh Morrison, Michael Williams, Ellie Munoz-Rubsamen, and Karter O’Shields; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Garza Ramirez and Aurora Murray Ramirez; sisters, Alpha, Naomi, Lidia, and Olivia; and brothers, Ben and David.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 7, 2024 at the Schmidt Funeral Home Grand Parkway Chapel, in Katy. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 12:45 p.m. on Friday, June 7, 2024 at the Houston National Cemetery, in Houston.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make memorial gifts may do so to the Texas Children’s Hospital, or to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
