Royal student-athletes sign to next level

A trio of Royal High School seniors signed to play sports and continue their education at the next level, with Layla Anderson, Kevin Martinez and Adrianna Prophet-Smith all signed national letters of intent at the Royal High School gym.

Royal student-athletes sign to next level

A trio of Royal High School seniors signed to play sports and continue their education at the next level, with Layla Anderson, Kevin Martinez and Adrianna Prophet-Smith all signed national letters of intent at the Royal High School gym.

Anderson, a senior who was named to the District 25-4A first team will continue her basketball career at the University of St. Thomas. Anderson helped Royal to a fifth-place finish in district.

Kevin Martinez, a senior cross-country runner, will continue his career at Angelo State University. Martinez qualified to state this year and finished in the top half of runners in Class 4A.

Adrianna Prophet-Smith signed to continue her track and field career at Lamar University after a medal filled high school career. Prophet-Smith capped off her high school career at the Class 4A state meet, where she was part of a relay team that finished second in the 400-meter relay and came in fifth in the 100-meter dash.

The trio were joined by Royal senior athletic trainer Kyla Thomas, who will go to the University of Texas at San Antonio to continue her academic career.
