By just 29 votes, the Royal ISD community passed a bond issue on May 2 to fund a new stadium for the rapidly growing district, which serves the Brookshire-Pattison area.
According to unofficial results posted on the Waller County election site, a total of 332 votes (52.28 per cent) were cast in favor of the measure while 303 voters (47.72 per cent) opposed the bond.
The proposed districtwide, multi-use stadium has a planned capacity of approximately 7,500 seats, and will be located near the new high school along FM 362 north of Brookshire. According to an April 5 post on the district’s Facebook page, the estimated cost for the proposed project is $72 million and the project will support a wide range of student programs and activities across the district, including band, athletics, cheer, track, soccer, graduation and youth programs
