Royal ISD seeks assistance to help students facing housing instability

Posted

Among the challenges facing the rapidly-growing Royal Independent School District is an uptick in the number of students facing homelessness or housing instability, a district spokesperson said.

“Thanks to our wonderful community partners, Royal ISD is able to support our students as we ‘Invest in our tomorrow,’ ” said Christi Ginn, Royal ISD Family & Community Engagement Coordinator, in an email to the Katy Times. “This year, we are serving 28 students facing homelessness or housing instability. Last week, we received eight new intakes, highlighting the growing need for support.”

With federal funding limited, the district is seeking community support in the following areas:

· Donations needed

o Non-perishable food and healthy snacks (must be nut-free)

o Personal hygiene items

o Clothing and undergarments (ages 4–19) Donations of socks and underwear must be in new/unopened packages

o Storage solutions (metal shelving & clear tubs)

· Additional support opportunities

o Sponsorships for extracurricular activities

o Support for senior-related expenses

“Your contributions—through donations, sponsorships, or sharing this message—directly impact student stability and success,” Ginn said.

Donations may be dropped off to Ginn at Royal Elementary School, 2222 Durking Rd, in Brookshire from 7:45 a.m. to 3:25 p.m. Monday through Friday. Donations will be ongoing and will be accepted through May 21, 2026.

Monetary donations may be made via check made out to Royal ISD and mailed to Royal ISD, Attention: Business Office, PO Box 489, Pattison, TX 7746. Gift cards to H-E-B and Walmart are encouraged.
