Royal ISD has named new principals for three of its campuses, according to recent Facebook posts, and has set up an opportunity for community members to meet the new leaders on July 22.
On May 31 the district announced via its website that Marangelly Harris would be the new principal at Royal High School. Harris is originally from Puerto Rico and raised in Brooklyn, New York; she is fluent in English and Spanish and specializes in building meaningful relationships with diverse students, staff, and families. With nearly 20 years in public education, Harris most recently served as a principal in Spring ISD where she successfully raised Northgate Crossing Elementary School from a C to a B rating through intentional instructional systems, data-driven leadership, and a vibrant campus culture. She has previously served in assistant principal roles at the middle school level, and high school assistant principal experience in both Bay City and Spring Branch ISDs. Before her career in education, Harris served in the United States Army, earning multiple military medals. Harris holds a bachelor’s degree in social psychology from Park University, a master’s degree in human services from Capella University, and a leadership certificate from The Executive Education Academy at Rice University. She is currently pursuing her doctorate in educational leadership.
On June 14, Royal Prairie Elementary reported on its Facebook page that Daniel Martinez would serve as its new principal. With 14 years in education, his journey has taken him through five years as an elementary assistant principal, two years as an elementary principal, and three years as a middle school principal, the post said. Martinez earned his bachelor’s degree in early childhood education and his master’s degree in educational administration from Texas A&M University San Antonio. He is also a co-author of “Restorative Discipline Practices: A Journey of Implementation by a Community of Texas Educators,” a reflection of his belief that strong relationships and accountability build better schools. His experience was further strengthened through the Harvard Leadership Program for Principals.
On July 2, via its Facebook page, Royal ISD announced a new principal – Felecia Carrington -- for Royal Junior High. Carrington brings leadership experiences from Fort Bend ISD and Alief ISD where she served as an assistant and associate principal. She has 27 years of experience as a teacher, lead high school counselor and administrator, serving students with diverse backgrounds including pre-K to adult high school campuses, Emergent Bilingual specialized programs and alternative school campuses. Carrington holds a bachelor of business administration in management from Prairie View A&M University and a master of arts in counseling, also from Prairie View A&M University. After serving as a high school counselor, she continued her education, earning a master of science in educational administration from the University of Houston-Victoria. Finally, she received her fourth degree with a doctorate in educational leadership from the University of Houston-Clear Lake, specializing in Curriculum and Instruction. She holds certifications in the areas of principal, counselor, ESL, special education and business.
The district will host a “Meet the New Principals” night at each of the three campuses on July 22 where families and community members can connect with the new leaders.
