Right on time: traffic signal on Clay Rd. operational just as school starts
Commuters in Katy’s rapidly-growing northwest quadrant will see some traffic relief, now that the temporary traffic signal at Clay Road and Katy Hockley Road is operational. The busy intersection currently serves three nearby Katy ISD campuses: Faldyn Elementary School and Haskett Junior High School (both on Clay Road just to the east) and Cross Elementary School to the west. The intersection will also eventually serve a portion of students in the Anniston neighborhood who will be zoned to the district’s new elementary school #49. The installation was completed by Harris County Precinct 4, which had pledged to have the signal ready by the start of the new school year. “As part of a long-term solution, Precinct 4 is also advancing the design of Clay Road, including improvements at this intersection, to increase roadway capacity and install a permanent traffic signal that will further enhance both safety and traffic flow,” a spokesperson for the precinct told the Katy Times in early May.
