Katy’s signature hometown event – the Rice Harvest Festival – came to a close Sunday night after three days of near-perfect weather. The annual festival held in Katy’s historic downtown square celebrates the area’s rich agricultural heritage and the rice farming that built the area.
Co-sponsored by the City of Katy and the Rotary Club of Katy, the event not only showcases Katy’s history and heritage, but also raises money for the Rotary Club’s scholarship programs and other charitable donations.
City Parks Director Kevin Browne said Tuesday that there were over 190 vendor booths who set up at the weekend event – 29 food vendors and 161 artisan/nonprofit or retail vendors. He also said that 93 volunteers checked in to help with the festival, many of whom were Rotarians.
Browne said that the numbers had not yet been finalized for the number of visitors who came to the festival or for the ticket sales and the amount of money raised. He said that analytic reports compiling this data will be run later in the week.
