Transitional planning is a daunting task to navigate as families begin to plan for the next generation with a focus on preservation of family land and assets, establishing trusts, writing wills, and navigating probate.
The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in Washington and Fayette counties offer an opportunity for those with an interest in preparing for the future to attend the Preserving Family Heritage – Estate and Legal Planning Seminars being offered at two locations Tuesday, Aug. 27. The programs will be identical but will offer two locations to help ensure anyone interested has an opportunity close to home.
Fayette County Extension Office – 255 Svoboda Lane, LaGrange; registration at 8 a.m.; program 8:30 a.m. to noon, followed by lunch.
Washington County Extension Office – Sales Facility – 1305 E Blue Bell Road, Brenham; registration and lunch from noon to 4 p.m.
Presentations throughout the seminar will focus on an overview of estate and transition planning, business entities, trusts, and more, and understanding probate and alternative to probate. A duo of multi-generational agriculturalists and attorneys focusing on agricultural issues will provide presentations and be available to visit with attendees throughout the seminar.
Tiffany Dowell Lashmet currently serves as the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service Agricultural Law Specialist based in Amarillo and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to share with attendees.
Stephanie Bradley Fryer, attorney at law in Stamford, represents farmers, ranchers, and other rural Americans with estate planning and administration, oil and gas matters, real estate transactions, and other agricultural issues.
A lunch will be provided at each event thanks to the support from Citizens State Bank, Capital Farm Credit, AgWorkers Insurance, and Texas Farm Credit. These sponsors will have booths set up at both seminars for attendees to visit with them and learn more about the services they offer.
Preregistration for the seminar is now open and accepted online at https://washington.agrilife.org/estateplanning/. Interested attendees may also visit the Washington or Fayette County Extension offices to register for the events. Preregistration is $30 per person on or before Aug. 20, and onsite registration is $40 per person.
