Precinct 4 earns nine national awards for delivering for residents

Posted

From community centers equipped to serve residents during disasters to a park redesigned by the neighbors who use it, Harris County Precinct 4 Commissioner Lesley Briones and the Precinct 4 team are reimagining what county government can do for the people it serves.

That work keeps earning national recognition: Harris County Precinct 4 brought home nine National Association of Counties Achievement Awards this year, up from three in 2025. The NACo awards recognize the nation's most effective and innovative county government programs, and the wins reflect the creative solutions the Precinct 4 team is delivering for a safer, stronger Harris County.

Among the winners:

· Cool 4 the Summer, which put more than 250 free air conditioning units in the homes of seniors, veterans, and residents with disabilities

· STEAM4Kids, which brought teacher-led science and engineering programming to 125 students across five community centers

· P4 All Abilities, which is helping adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities build work experience and prepare for meaningful employment.

“Behind each award is a program solving a real problem for Precinct 4 residents,” a department spokesperson said in the August 7 announcement.
