Local nonprofit Katy Responds, which organizes and leads home restoration projects for local families in need, has launched a new initiative – “Age in Grace.” The program – detailed in the organization’s September newsletter ‘’ is designed to ensure safe and secure aging in place for older adults.

The program makes home modifications for those who have mobility challenges, allowing seniors to live safely and with grace in their own homes. Some of the services included are bathroom adjustments such as grab bars, comfort-height toilets, curbless showers and handheld shower heads. Other house-wide reapirs include door and facucet handles and threshold removal and entry/exit modifications such as ramps, video doorbell or a remote intercom.

Applicants must be listed as the homeowner and must not own multiple homes. Applicant must be current on their property tax or have a written plan in place with the county. Eligibility is not age-related and is determined by individual need. Household income must be at or below 80 percent AMI per HUD guidelines.
