Congressman Troy Nehls, R – Texas, of Texas’s 22nd Congressional District, announced Saturday that he has been diagnosed with COVID-19 just days after being near a family member who had a mild case of the illness.

“I’m experiencing moderate symptoms, but I am fully vaccinated and hope it passes soon,” Nehls said in a social media statement issued Saturday. “I have been quarantining at home and will continue to do so for at least the next 10 days.”

In a Wednesday statement, Nehls announced that a close family member had tested positive for COVID-19 and he had begun clearing his calendar to make sure he did not spread the virus. In that announcement, he also said he encouraged vaccinations.

“Every American is free to make their own health decisions, but I strongly encourage getting vaccinated,” Nehls said.
