The Taylor High School Mustangs rose to the top of Texas cheerleading, capturing the UIL 6A Division I Spirit Championship and bringing home the first state title in school history during finals competition in Fort Worth, Katy ISD announced in a January 20 press release.
Taylor secured the championship with a 92.9 cumulative score, edging out Tomball High School and Jordan High School to claim gold and cement its place among the state’s elite programs.
Katy ISD showcased its depth of talent across both athletics and fine arts, placing four teams in the Top 10 at the UIL 6A Division I Spirit Championship Finals. “The strong showing reinforced the district’s reputation as a statewide leader in cheer and spirit programs,” a district spokesperson said.
“This championship is a testament to the dedication, resilience and passion of our students and coaches,” Katy ISD Assistant Director of Fine Arts LaKeisha McGowen said. “Taylor’s first state championship, along with our District’s strong overall showing reflects the culture of excellence we strive to cultivate across all Katy ISD fine arts.”

Katy ISD teams also earned top honors during the qualifying rounds, bringing home Best in Category awards:

“The results highlight Katy ISD’s continued excellence in competitive cheer, where student-athletes combine athletic skill, performance quality and school spirit at the highest level,” the district said. “Katy ISD congratulates the Taylor Mustangs and all District cheer teams for an outstanding showing on the state stage.”
