Mayde Creek cracks Houston area HS football poll

Posted

Mayde Creek joined the Houston area high school football media poll this week as the Rams came in at No. 19 in Class 6A.

The Rams’ inclusion makes it five Katy ISD programs who are represented in the polls. Katy High, Taylor, Tompkins and Mayde Creek are ranked in Class 6A; Paetow is ranked in Class 5A.

The rankings, organized by Houston Chronicle high school sports coordinator Adam Coleman, are selected by 12 media voters in the Houston area, representing the Katy Times, Houston Chronicle, Sealy News, Fort Bend Herald, Texan Live, VYPE and the Lone Star Christian Sports Network, among others.

Katy (3-0) remains No. 2 in the Class 6A rankings behind unanimous No. 1 pick North Shore. The Tigers beat Seven Lakes, 59-3, last week to open District 19-6A play and extended their district winning streak to 74 games. Katy plays No. 9 Tompkins at 11 a.m. Saturday at Legacy Stadium.

Taylor (3-0) jumped up one spot to No. 8 following its 31-14 win over Morton Ranch. The Mustangs play Seven Lakes at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Legacy Stadium.

Tompkins (3-0) moved up a spot to No. 9. The Falcons topped Cinco Ranch, 55-0, last week and play the Tigers in a much-anticipated game Saturday that could have significant district title implications.

Mayde Creek is 3-0, and its 28-7 win over Dulles last week was enough to put the Rams in the Top 20. Mayde Creek opens its district slate against Cinco Ranch at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Rhodes Stadium.

In the Class 5A poll, Paetow (2-0) remained No. 4. The Panthers were idle last week after a COVID-19 case in Lamar Consolidated ISD forced the rescheduling of its district opener against Richmond Foster. Paetow plays Kempner at 7 p.m. Friday at Mercer Stadium in Sugar Land.
