Maud Marks Library to host used book sale

A Katy-area tradition resumes later this month as the Friends of the Maud Marks Library will hold its used book sale.

The sale is set for 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Jan. 29 at the library, 1815 Westgreen Blvd. Proceeds support library programs offered to the public.

About half of the room features tables with novels in hardback, trade paperback, and mass market paperback. Titles by well-known novelists such as Sandra Brown, Harlan Coben, and Michael Connelly, among others, can easily be found.

Nonfiction titles such as biography, history and memoir are also available for purchase. Specialty and reference books on art, business, foreign language and travel are placed against the wall.

The selection isn’t limited to books, however. The sale features magazines, movie DVDs, music CDs, and even vinyl records.

This month’s indoor sale is a return to tradition at the library. In the past, the library held its sales monthly and indoors. But the pandemic forced a change of plans and things were shut down.

“We had an outdoor book sale in October,” Akhila Bhat, library branch manager, said. “We brought back indoor book sales in December.”

Bhat said masks are not required but highly recommended.

Donors drop off books, CDs, DVDs, magazines and other media in two bins in the library foyer. Volunteers examine the materials to ensure suitability for sale.

On the Friday before the sale, volunteers set up tables both against the wall and in the middle of the room and place the material.

“Book sales support the library in many ways,” Bhat said. “Please come out and the support the library.”
