The Katy High School girls cross country team raced their way to the podium at the UIL 6A State Championships, finishing as third place medalists, according to a November 12 post by Katy ISD on its district Facebook page.
The Lady Tigers surged from sixth at the one-mile mark to fourth at two miles, closing strong to pass The Woodlands High School and secure third place at the finish.
Sophomore Vienna Fish led the team with a fourteenth-place individual finish, earning All-State honors as the second overall sophomore in Texas 6A and the highest individual finisher in KHS history. Freshman Kinley Skaggs also earned All-State recognition, finishing in the top 25 as the second freshman in the state.
Junior Lauren Acopa, sophomore Avery Torrey and sophomore Abby Lester rounded out the team’s scoring, with all three delivering strong performances to push the Lady Tigers to their best race of the season. Juniors Jasmine Avalos and freshman Annabelle Hesterman also turned in solid runs to close out the lineup.
With their finish, the Lady Tigers are among the top 25 teams in the nation, the district said in the post.
