KPD bests BPD in battle to raise funds for Camp Hope
David Maulsby (left), executive director of Camp Hope, eyes the mock check for $16,150 presented to the organization by Mark Garsee of the Katy Police Department (center) and Officer Darryl Phillips (right) of the Brookshire Police Department. The funds were raised through a friendly competition between the two departments, called S.O.S. for Vets, with KPD winning the challenge by bringing in $14,000 of the total. KPD raised money through donations from local businesses as well as personal donations. “This challenge showed what can happen when our communities unite with a shared purpose,” a spokesperson for KPD said on its Facebook page in early August. “Every person who supported this effort made a difference in the lives of those who sacrificed so much for our country.” Camp Hope is a PTSD Foundation of America outreach facility located in Northwest Houston. Its mission us to address the “invisible wounds of war” and focuses on providing intensive peer support, mentoring, and healing opportunities for combat veterans and their families, as well as first responders.
