KISD’s state track and field gold medalist honored at school board meeting
At the May 12 meeting of the Katy ISD school board, Executive Athletic Director Lance Carter extended special recognition to five KISD athletes for their accomplishments at the UIL 6A track and field competition, noting that the five individual medalists this year were the most in KISD history. Left to right: Etoro Bassey of Tompkins High School, who won the gold in high jump and is ranked number one in Texas, number one in the U.S., number seven in Texas history and number 60 in U.S. high school track history; Elijah Ferguson of Mayde Creek High, who won gold in the 400m run and is a regional record holder, ranked number one in Texas, number four in the U.S., number four in Texas history and number 23 in US track history; Janey Campbell of Seven Lakes High who captured gold in shot put and is ranked number 1 in 6A, number two in state .and ninth in the U.S.; Adam Carter of Katy High School who won gold in shot put and was runner-up in discus, who is the district record holder and regional record holder who is ranked number one in Texas, number two in the U.S., seventh all-time in Texas history and number 30 in U.S. track history; and Max Austin of Seven Lakes High, bringing home the gold in pole vault and ranked number one in Texas, number 26 in the U.S. and 52nd all time . Of the 32 athletes representing KISD at the state meet, nine earned medals.
