Katy ISD’s Partners in Education Department has partnered with Business & Community Partnership (BCP) organization Compassion Katy in a project to help students returning to campus next fall, the department said in a May 20 email.
Compassion Katy is currently preparing for their annual Operation Back 2 School initiative, which provides complete school supply kits to students in need across the district. Each kit includes 19 essential items—such as notebooks, folders, crayons, glue, and more—and is packaged and ready for immediate classroom use. The kits – including a backpack -- are free to elementary-aged students enrolled for the 2025–2026 school year students who register by June 15 at https://secure.qgiv.com/for/operationback2school-ob2s2025/event/operationback2school2025/
· Registration is required to receive supplies.
· Save the confirmation email and keep it accessible
· The student must print and bring the confirmation email with the Qgiv ticket QR Code. Each QR Code is valid one time only — duplicates will not be accepted.
Compassion Katy will distribute the supplies at a drive-through event at the Merrell Center, 6301 S. Stadium Lane in Katy on Saturday, August 2 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. According to their website, Compassion Katy, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, collaborates with local churches, organizations, businesses, nonprofits, and individuals to offer vital resources to economically disadvantaged children in the Katy ISD community. Compassion Katy, alongside Katy ISD and Title 1 Elementary school counselors, is actively registering economically disadvantaged children in 19 Title 1 elementary schools. With 10,500 elementary students eligible for free or reduced meals, many families struggle to secure the basic needs of living in the Katy community. The organization brings attention, resources, and presence to provide value to the lives of under-resourced children by ensuring that each child commences the academic year dressed for success. Any and every donation helps, Compassion Katy said on its website. Every $50 equips a child with a backpack and essential school supplies. To donate, go to https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/donation-form/donate-to-make-a-difference-with-compassion-katy. Last year, 3,000 backpacks were distributed. The goal for 2025 is to distribute 3,200 backpacks, according to a statement on the website.
