Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LP has announced that Avery Wang, a senior at Cinco Ranch High School, has been named as one of 40 recipients for its 2021 dependents’ scholarships. Scholarships are offered to the dependents of employees who are seeking higher education.

“Part of our company’s vision is to be the employer and neighbor of choice across the many communities where we operate,” said Bryce Hallowell, public affairs manager. “A critical component of executing on this vision is to support educational pursuits of exceptional students from the many parents and guardians who make our company a great place to work. It is an honor for us to support scores of new bright minds every year.”

Wang is the daughter of Kung Shung Wang, a senior process control engineer at Chevron Phillips Chemical’s Cedar Bayou Plant in Baytown. She plans to attend the University of Texas at Austin to study physics and is currently involved in yearbook, Journalism Honor Society, Key Club, the Taiwanese Youth Society and is a National Merit Finalist.

Wang won the scholarship after a thorough review of her academic records and an assessment of her leadership skills and participation in school and community activities. Those include special honors, work experience, goals and aspirations, personal or family circumstances, as well as recommendations from advisers, teachers or employers.
