KISD faces lawsuit over bus incident

Posted

A lawsuit obtained by local television station ABC13 alleges a student fell out of a Katy ISD bus, and now the parents are suing the district and the bus company, the station reported on its website on December 12.

The lawsuit filed in October by the parents' attorneys on behalf of the child is asking for compensation for medical expenses and physical pain, the report said.

The lawsuit alleges that "the bus driver operated recklessly and at a high rate of speed," causing a student to be "thrown against the emergency exit of the door” and suffering severe injuries, as students were on their way to school. The event reportedly took place in January 2025, but the destination campus was not identified in the station’s story.

The parents are suing the school district and SelectTransportation Resources LLC for alleged negligence, the story said. A district spokesperson told the station,"Due to pending litigation, the district is not able to comment on this matter.”

The Katy Times was unable to reach a district spokesperson for additional information in time for this edition, as the district was closed for winter break.
