A record 515 participants took part in the 29th annual Rotary Club of Katy Triathlon at Cane Island, raising about $76,000 for student scholarships.
“It’s definitely a record,” Paul Kurt, event chairman, said. “We are very excited. We all worked hard for it. It’s a team effort.”
The triathlon took place Sept. 4 in Cane Island.
The triathlon featured athletes in a number of age categories.

During the triathlon, a 61-year-old man suffered cardiac arrest, and Katy EMS took him to Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital, a Katy Fire Department spokesperson said. No further word was available on the man’s condition at press time.
