Katy ISD is now recognized as a CTE District of Distinction by the Career and Technical Association of Texas (CTAT), a prestigious honor celebrating districts that demonstrate exceptional leadership, innovation and student success through high-quality Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs. The district announced the honor in a February 9 press release.

The designation highlights Katy ISD’s commitment to preparing students for college, careers and the workforce through rigorous, future-focused CTE pathways aligned to industry needs, the release said. CTAT’s CTE District of Distinction program recognizes districts that excel in workforce readiness, innovative programming and community impact while serving as models of best practices across Texas.

More than 32,000 students are enrolled in CTE courses across 40 programs, and nearly 45 percent of graduating seniors earn an industry certification before graduation. Katy ISD’s CTE programs emphasize hands-on learning, industry certifications and strong partnerships that connect students to real-world experiences. The district offers a wide range of career pathways that support workforce development and help students graduate with skills that matter.

“This honor affirms the intentional work happening across our campuses to connect learning with purpose,” said Jeannie Knierim, director of Career and Technical Education. “Our CTE programs empower students to explore interests, earn industry recognized credentials and graduate with confidence in their next steps.”

CTAT launched the CTE District of Distinction program to spotlight districts that meet rigorous criteria, including innovative instruction, alignment to workforce demands, industry-based certifications and strong student outcomes. Honored districts help advance CTE statewide by sharing successful strategies and inspiring continued growth.

As a CTE District of Distinction, KISD strengthens its role as a leader in career-connected learning while expanding opportunities for collaboration with education and workforce partners. The recognition underscores the district’s ongoing focus on preparing students for high-demand careers and lifelong success, according to the release.
