It's a big month for Angela Urumendiz: She received the prestigious Educational Excellence Award from KinderCare Learning Companies™ — one of only 20 KinderCare teachers nationwide to receive the distinction for her dedication to inspiring the young minds of children in her programs located in Katy, the company announced in an October 14 press release.

KinderCare, one of America’s leading providers of early childhood and school-age education and childcare, employs 42,000 teachers and staff across its family of brands. Out of those 42,000, Urumendiz was one of only 20 award recipients acknowledged for their passion and dedication to early childhood education and inspiring the young minds of their students. Urumendiz is a Discovery Preschool teacher at Katy Knowledge Beginnings, a NAEYC-accredited child care center at 6130 S. Fry Rd. in Katy. This is the second consecutive year that this center has had an award winner, the company said.

According to Center Director Navina Kryeziu, “[Urumendiz] is an extraordinary teacher whose warmth, creativity, and dedication shine through in everything she does. In her classroom, she celebrates each child’s unique strengths and meets them exactly where they are and with patience, empathy and intentional care. Angela builds deep, trusting relationships with families, creating an inclusive community where everyone feels heard and valued.

“Her classroom is a joyful, engaging space that sparks curiosity and confidence, whether she’s leading a ‘Kind Friend’ activity or turning a child’s interest in bugs into a hands-on science exploration. She embodies what it means to teach with heart. She models kindness, professionalism, and teamwork every day, always striving to grow and share her learning with others. Our center is brighter, stronger, and more connected because of her.”

As an award recipient, Urumendiz will receive an individual cash prize, professional development opportunities and a cash award for her program.
