Jordan’s Garrett McChesney claimed the school’s first gold medal in wrestling on Saturday, as he beat Thomas Pacheco of Amarillo Tascosa to win the Class 5A 132-pound gold medal match.
Joining McChesney was Taylor’s Michael Bone with a gold as he won the Class 6A 160-pound weight class by beating Arlington Martin’s Grayson Carpenter in the gold medal match, as did Katy’s Rodney Trotter, who won the Class 6A 285-pound weight class by beating Caleb Jinks of South Grand Prarie.
The Katy boys finished fourth overall at the meet, scoring 70 points, while the Seven Lakes girls finished eighth overall with 37 points.
During the meet, Katy wrestling coach Vinnie Lowe and Morton Ranch alum Tamyra Mensah Stock were both inducted into the Texas High School Wrestling Coaches Association Hall of Honor for their achievements. Mensah Stock won a gold medal at the last summer Olympics.
