“We’ve made runs each of our first two years in Class 6A, but we aren’t satisfied with that this year. This group of guys has all been there and we know what to do. It’s time for us to take that next step and compete for big things both in our district and in the playoffs.”

Jordan has already done some big things in its short school history.
The Warriors have had success each of the last two years, making the playoffs and going on runs each season once they got there.
But this year, the Warriors want more. They have big goals for themselves both in the playoffs and before they get there. They know that they have a team capable of something special, and they are putting in the work to make their goals happen.
That work and effort showed on Tuesday, as the Warriors finished off their non-district schedule with a 68-38 win over Stratford, dominating on both ends of the court and heading into the Thanksgiving break with an 8-1 record as they prepare for District 19-6A play.
“We’ve made runs each of our first two years in Class 6A, but we aren’t satisfied with that this year,” said senior point guard Elijah Black. “This group of guys has all been there and we know what to do. It’s time for us to take that next step and compete for big things both in our district and in the playoffs.”
Jordan came out strong from the opening tip on Tuesday, suffocating Stratford with a full-court press and getting easy buckets by getting out in transition. The Warriors played well in the first half, stretching a 19-13 first-quarter lead into a 35-26 halftime lead, but they stretched that lead in the second half, going up by 19 points at the end of the third quarter before winning by 30 and having a chance to put the end of the bench in at the end of the game.
“We already are growing rapidly to start the year,” Black said. “There are small things we can fix up, but day by day we are growing and getting better. We already have that connection and it’s just about fine-tuning things and making sure we play the right way.”
Jordan is playing at a fast pace this year. The Warriors are letting their athletes shine and get easy buckets by getting out in transition and it’s working, as they are averaging over 67 points per game while they are giving up just under 47 points per game. Up-tempo offenses can sometimes lead to more turnovers and easy buckets for the other team, but with this Jordan squad, it hasn’t. They are a group that has experience, has chemistry and knows how to play smart while still playing fast, a dangerous combination for their opponents.
“These guys have a lot of experience and I trust them out there on the court,” said Jordan head coach Charlie Jones. “There’s a lot of times that I let them figure things out in the huddle or on the court because I know these guys can. Of course, there are times I have to reel them back in but this group knows how to play smart and aggressive at the same time.”
Lots of Jones’ faith comes from his backcourt duo of Black and Jaden Holt. The two have as much scoring power and creativity as any guard duo that teams will see all year and teams are unable to go after one without accounting for the other making it a nightmare matchup for defenses.
But it isn’t just those two this year. The Warriors have depth, they have pieces in the front court, they have the experience and poise. This team could challenge for big things this year and that is exactly what Jones and the Warriors expect.
“We’re playing for February, that’s our goal,” Jones said. “We know that it isn’t going to be easy but that’s the expectations we have for ourselves and the goal is to just get better every day, put your best performances together, and make sure we are ready for district and beyond because this district in Katy has become one of the toughest in the state.”
