Jordan High School sophomore Carolyn Liu – at just 15 years old -- intimidated even some of the best golfers in the room during the May 11 meeting of Katy ISD’s board of trustees, where she was honored with special recognition for her athletic achievements this year.
“Last week at the UIL 2026 Golf State Championship, one of our students' athletes made a very special mark on history” said. Katy ISD Executive Athletic Director Lance Carter. “Some of Carolyn's accomplishments are going to truly astonish the golfers in the room.”
Liu shot a two-under par through 36 holes to win by four shots at TPC San Antonio, which is a pro TPC course, Carter said.
“This caps a remarkable season for Caroline when she won seven tournaments, the Region III tournament by seven shots, shooting a seven under par at that tournament,” Carter said. “Her performance helped and her leadership helped the Jordan golf team win back-to-back district titles and back-to-back regional titles.”
The Jordan golf team has been to the state tournament the past three years. As a freshman last year, Liu finished fifth in the state. So far in her career, she has won seven tournaments, including the state championship this year. She also holds the score record of a 67 for a low 36-hole tournament and a 135 for over a two-day tournament. Her average tournament score this season was 71.9, which is under par, Carter said.
“Her grace and composure stand out amongst her greatest amongst her talents,” Carter said.
“I have been playing golf three times longer than she has been alive and have never played this good of golf,” Carter said.
