JIM PREWETT, 87, of Brookshire, passed away Tuesday, January 25, 2022, in Katy, Texas.

Jim was born October 17, 1934, in Bremond, Texas to parents James H. and Jewel Aileen (Oldham) Prewett. He grew up in Bremond before moving to Houston where he graduated from Milby High School. He then received his bachelor’s degree from Baylor University before attending University of Oxford where he earned his PhD.

On April 26, 1956, Jim married Shirley Ann Love at the First Baptist Church in Richmond, Texas. They made their home in Houston from 1956 until 1968 before moving to Brookshire. Jim was employed as an English teacher for Houston ISD. He was an active member of the Pattison United Methodist Church where he served on the Church Council, and was a member of the Brookshire Masonic Lodge #1066, AF&AM. Jim enjoyed reading, and loved his cologne and plants.

He is survived by his wife of over 65 years: Shirley Prewett of Brookshire; daughter: Alissa Ann Seward of Katy; grandchildren: Ninah, Robert, Widwright, Noah, Bailey and Kylie; son-in-law: Terrell Pickett, also of Katy; brother: Jerry Lee Prewett of Richmond; sister: Judy Carolyn Dusek of Sugarland; and many other dear friends and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents: James and Jewel Prewett, his daughter: Dayna Leigh Pickett; and his brother: Jack Prewett.

Family will be present to receive friends from 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM, Monday, January 31, 2022, at the Schmidt Funeral Home Chapel in Brookshire. Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at the Pattison United Methodist Church with Reverend Patricia Wehn-glowski officiating. Interment followed in the Pattison Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ervin Paben, Andrew Crofton, Lee Kosina, Justin Freeman, Charlie Wilson, Mikel Hawkins and Gillian Zuehlke. Honorary Pallbearers were Duwain Dumas, Clarence Fallin and Brett Hamilton.
