MayDell Jenks Elementary of Katy ISD has announced their upcoming trip for the Jazzy Jags to sing at the State Capitol, in Austin on March 4.
The Jazzy Jags, under the direction of Michael Cumo, Debra Herrera and Mary White, are a group of about 100 non-auditioned fifth grade students who have come together to create a choir.
“The choir is a representation of a school that takes pride in the community it has created representing a mass diversity of culture and heritage,” White told the Katy Times in an email interview. “The music they will be performing also represents many of the cultures within the group, but more so, the unity that is created through the music.”
The Austin performance was scheduled after White reached out to officials at the Capitol.
In addition to the concert at the Capitol, the group will hold a public concert on March 3 at 6 p.m. in the Jenks Elementary gymnasium at 27602 Westridge Creek Lane, Katy.
