James "Jim" Vernon Jones
James "Jim" Vernon Jones, 77, of Katy, Texas, passed away on June 22, 2025, due to complications from surgery. He was born on January 14, 1948, in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
A devout and baptized Christian, Jim recently worshipped at Grace Fellowship church. He was a proud alumnus of the University of Oklahoma, where he earned his Master's Degree. Jim enjoyed a thriving 30-year career as a Petroleum Engineer with Conoco-Phillips.
Jim raised his two sons in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and Borger, Texas, instilling in them a love for adventure, outdoorsmanship, responsibility, and a deep appreciation for America's ideals, as well as for travel abroad.
Jim was a man of immense passion, particularly for the outdoors. He was an avid hiker, skier, and rock climber. An accomplished alpine mountaineer, he summited all of Colorado's fourteeners and conquered several South American peaks, including Aconcagua at 22,837 feet. Even more enthusiastic about road cycling, he consistently rode over 4,000 miles per year. This dedication no doubt saved his life preventing a heart attack, but came at cost of several broken bones. He never quit.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 52 years Linda Jo Jones; his sons, Christopher Vernon Jones of Austin, Texas, and Stephen Kenneth Jones of Boulder, Colorado; and his granddaughter, Lyra Autumn Jones of Boulder, Colorado.
May he rest in peace and be forever in our hearts in the company of God.
