Inclement weather expected in Katy forces changes to events

Posted

The inclement weather predicted for today and this weekend has altered plans for at least two outdoor events in Katy.

Baskets & Bunnies, a family-friendly event featuring Easter egg hunting, holiday crafts, inflatables, activities and a visit from the Easter Bunny, has been reorganized. Those hoping to participate are invited to visit the VFW parking lot, where event organizers have organized a drive-through event for the Easter Bunny and friends to pass out Easter eggs and goodies.

The reset event is from 10-11:30 a.m. Saturday at Katy VFW parking lot, 6202 George Bush Dr. For more information, call the city’s parks department at 281-391-4840.

Meanwhile, Bedrock City Mini Con, a free mini comic vendor fair featuring 60+ vendors, signings, local artists, cosplay contests, games, food trucks, live music and more at No Label Brewery, 5351 -A 1st St., has been postponed.

“This is a largely outdoor show and we are at the mercy of the weather,” Bedrock City Comic Co. said in a statement. “Because it will be raining consistently through Saturday morning (and possibly during the event), causing it to be wet and muddy for our vendors, we are forced to postpone the show.”

The event is expected to be rescheduled.

Friday’s forecast calls for a 70% chance of thunderstorms with a high in the low 60s, the National Weather Service said. Friday night, the chance of rain drops to 50%, with a low in the mid-50s.

Saturday’s forecast calls for a 10% chance of showers and thunderstorms before 7 a.m. Skiles will be mostly cloudy and the high will be in the low-70s. North winds will be around 10 mph, the weather service said.

Saturday night’s forecast calls for mostly cloudy skies with a low around 60. Winds will be from the north between five-10 mph.

The Easter Sunday forecast calls for mostly cloudy skies with a high near 77. Winds will be from the northeast between five-10 mph, the weather service said.
